Authorship Policy
1. Purpose and Scope
This policy defines authorship criteria, contributor responsibilities, and procedures for handling authorship disputes and changes. It applies to all manuscripts submitted to the Journal of Management, Economics, and Industrial Organization (JOMEINO).
2. Authorship Criteria
2.1 Who Qualifies as an Author
Authorship is limited to individuals who have made a substantial intellectual contribution to the work. To qualify as an author, each individual must meet all of the following criteria:
- made a significant contribution to the conception or design of the study, or to the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data;
- participated in drafting the manuscript or critically revising it for important intellectual content;
- approved the final version of the manuscript prior to submission;
- agrees to be accountable for all aspects of the work and to ensure that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.
Individuals who do not meet all of these criteria should not be listed as authors.
2.2 Contributors and Acknowledgements
Individuals who contributed to the work but do not meet the authorship criteria (e.g., technical support, data collection, language editing, administrative assistance, funding acquisition alone) should be acknowledged in the Acknowledgements section, with their permission.
3. Author Responsibilities
All authors are responsible for:
- ensuring the originality, accuracy, and integrity of the manuscript;
- confirming that the work has not been published elsewhere and is not under consideration by another journal;
- disclosing any conflicts of interest;
- approving the final manuscript and agreeing to its submission;
- cooperating with editors in responding to peer review, ethical inquiries, corrections, or retractions.
The corresponding author is responsible for communication with the journal and for ensuring that all listed authors meet the authorship criteria and have approved the submission.
4. Authorship Misconduct
Authorship misconduct includes, but is not limited to:
- guest, gift, or honorary authorship;
- omission of eligible contributors;
- misrepresentation of author contributions;
- submission without the knowledge or consent of all listed authors.
Such practices are considered breaches of publication ethics and may result in rejection, correction, or retraction of the article in accordance with COPE guidance.
5. Changes in Authorship
5.1 Before Acceptance
Any request to add, remove, or reorder authors before acceptance must be submitted in writing by the corresponding author and must include:
- a clear explanation for the change;
- written confirmation (email or signed statement) from all authors, including those being added or removed, indicating their agreement.
5.2 After Acceptance or Publication
Changes in authorship after acceptance or publication are permitted only in exceptional circumstances. Such requests are carefully reviewed by the Editor-in-Chief and may require institutional confirmation. Approved changes after publication are documented through a formal correction notice.
6. Authorship Disputes
6.1 During Editorial Process
If an authorship dispute arises during submission or peer review, the editorial process may be suspended until the issue is resolved. The journal may request clarification from the authors or refer the matter to the authors’ institutions.
6.2 After Publication
Authorship disputes arising after publication are handled in accordance with COPE flowcharts. The journal does not adjudicate disputes of contribution but may issue corrections or other notices based on the outcome of institutional investigations.
7. Appeals
Authors may appeal authorship-related editorial decisions by submitting a written request to the Editorial Office. Appeals are reviewed by the Editor-in-Chief or an independent editor not involved in the original decision.
8. Alignment with Ethical Standards
This policy is aligned with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Core Practices and internationally accepted standards of responsible authorship. JOMEINO regularly reviews and updates this policy to ensure continued compliance with best practices.
